As part of this celebration, RxE2 is proud to showcase the dedication and expertise of our women leaders, starting with an insightful interview with our Chief Pharmacy Officer, Tina Schlecht, PharmD.
Dr. Schlecht provides exceptional leadership to our team and shares her unique perspective on patient care, clinical research, and the future role of the pharmacist.
Interview with Tina Schlecht, PharmD
- Personal Journey: What inspired you to pursue a career in pharmacy, and how has your journey shaped your perspective on patient care?
I was inspired by the experience of my grandfather going through chemotherapy treatment and the hard challenges associated I knew that there must be a better way.
For me, pharmacy is 100% about patient care. Patients come first and foremost, and they need much more help and guidance than most health care practitioners realize. The US health care system is difficult, time consuming, and unfriendly to patients. This is particularly true for those without health care knowledge and those with limited resources. Pharmacists are on the front lines and easily accessible to provide exceptional patient support.
- Role in Clinical Trials: How do you see community pharmacists contributing to clinical trials, and what unique advantages do they bring to this process?
Most medications that sit on pharmacy shelves have been through the clinical research process. Community pharmacists can play an integral role in clinical trials by informing patients about clinical trial opportunities and promoting the benefits of clinical research as a whole.
- Celebrating Pharmacists: As we celebrate American Pharmacists Month, what message would you like to share about the importance of pharmacists in healthcare?
As a health care practitioner, it is our primary role to advocate for our patients and help them with maintaining and improving their health through the practice of medicine. They need information and support throughout their health care journeys so they can be successful and obtain the full benefits of their treatments.
Final Words
Dr. Schlecht’s insights underscore the critical role that pharmacists, especially women pharmacists, play in supporting patients through complex health challenges. As she emphasizes, pharmacists are key advocates for patients, ensuring they receive the information and support needed to succeed in their treatment plans.
